The unregistered version.
The unregistered version of ToScrap is fully operational, but will always show its "about" box followed by one alert, when you open it. It will show one alert, before to quit.
When you register ToScrap the irritating reminders don't appear and the "unregistered" notice will be replaced by the registration information.
Notice: soon after registering, you will receive the serial number via e-mail.
ToScrap 1.3.1 can also be included, without my previous permission, without changes and with this "Read Me", in all CD-ROM or disk shareware collections and in all CD-ROM or Disk magazines (By the way an e-mail or a notice will be welcome, as well as a copy of the magazine or media :-).
ToScrap 1.3.1 may not be included in a commercial package without my permission.
How to use.
The ToScrap package contains two versions of the application:
√...ToScrap 1.3.1 (68K) for 68K Macs or, in emulation, for Power Macs.
√...ToScrap 1.3.1 (PPC) for Power Macs.
ToScrap is an useful application for copying data to Clipboard without open files containing data.
In other words, if you pass, for example, a 'PICT' file to ToScrap, the picture will be copied into Clipboard, but the file remains closed. Data copied can be pasted, naturally, following the usual procedures, but ToScrap is very useful to check, quickly, the contents of files. For example if you leave opened the Clipboard window then pass a 'TEXT' file to ToScrap, you can read the text, comfortably and fast, without use word processors...
Clipboard management: clear the Scrap, read it into memory, write it to disk. ToScrap can also automatically open the Finder's Clipboard window, after copying (or else at any time).
Drag Manager support.
Hot Keys for choosing alternative work method.
ToScrap is Macintosh Drag and Drop, Internet Config and Balloon Help aware. It requires, at least System Seven to run and is Appearance savvy.
Copy items.
You can copy files by dragging them onto ToScrap desktop icon, by selecting them through "Edit menu" (menu item "Copy") or by dragging theirs icons on ToScrap's "Drag Window" (shown below).
Notice: If you open ToScrap by dragging files onto its desktop icon, after completing its job it quits.
ToScrap follows this way, for copying:
1) It tries its built-in translators first. If they fail then:
2) It attempts to use "Claris XTND System". If there's not a XTND's translator available, or else if XTND's translator fails, or else if you haven't "Claris XTND System", then:
3) It gives you the chance to copy one fork into Clipboard, without use translation.
Hold down option key, while you choose a file, for trying "Claris XTND System" before built-in translators.
Hold down command key, while you choose a file, to skip both "Claris XTND System" and built-in translator, jumping, immediately, to fork copying.
Hold down control key, while you choose a file, to open the Finder's Clipboard window after copying.
You may also use these Hot Keys, while you're selecting a file by using "Copy" menu item.
ToScrap can also copy portions of screen: it shows, simply, a cross cursor; you should drag the cross cursor, selecting the area you want to copy, then release the mouse button.
You can reach copy screen feature by using "Copy Screen" menu item ("File" menu) furthermore, if you open ToScrap by double click but holding down command key, it copies the screen area you want then quits.
ToScrap always attempts to use temporary memory, copying data into clipboard, but this isn't suitable at any time (never during screen copying). So if you want to copy very large screen area, or else if you've frequently trouble, you should increase ToScrap's memory partition size (through "Get Info…" from Finder's "File" menu after selecting ToScrap icon).
There's another nice and useful feature: through "Info…" menu item ("File" menu) you can gather infos about current scrap file and manage some its aspect, specifically you may: clear the Scrap, read the Scrap into memory and put the Scrap on disk.

ToScrap is Appearance savvy, but runs with System Seven look on Macintoshes without Appearance Manager.
ToScrap doesn't annoy you with error alerts but plays the "System's click sound" when copying succeeds or a "wrong" sound if fails. This means that when a "translation system" fails ToScrap plays the "wrong" sound then, if the alternative "translation system" succeeds, it plays the click sound (no sound means low memory).
Be careful: optimize your "Claris Translator" folder. If you've several translators for one kind of file, leave in "Claris Translator" folder only the better! This for speeding up ToScrap work.
